Antenatal education classes
Calvary John James Hospital is pleased to announce we have partnered with 10to8 to create an online booking platform for our antenatal education classes. Bookings can be made via the website or QR code:
All our classes are held in the Education Room which is located underneath the Maternity Unit.
There are no fees for any of our antenatal education classes, and your birth support person is encouraged to attend.
If you attended these classes for a previous pregnancy, you are welcome to attend during this pregnancy.
Please note – if a class is full, the date will not show up on the booking platform but may still appear on the information tables below.
Class information
You are welcome to attend this class any time in second or third trimester, ideally between 30-37 weeks of pregnancy.
The class covers:
Stages of labour
Vaginal delivery/assisted vaginal delivery/caesarean section delivery
When to ring the hospital
Pain relief options
The role of your support person
Baby cares advice
Lactation advice

Please note:
If you have been asked or wish to attend both Labour and birth classes and planned caesarean section classes:
Please enrol only in labour and birthing classes and attend the second class in a series of 4 planned caesarean section classes on a Thursday evening from 6.30 to 8.30pm.
If you are unable to attend on a Thursday night, please come to a Saturday session between 11am to 1.00 pm.
You are welcome to attend this class any time in second or third trimester, ideally between 30-37 weeks of pregnancy.

What occurs prior/during/after a caesarean section delivery
When to ring the hospital (if you go into labour prior to your planned caesarean section)
The role of your support person
Baby cares advice
Lactation advice

Please enrol only in Labour and Birthing classes and attend the second class in a series of 4 Planned Caesarean Section classes on a Thursday evening from 6.30 to 8.30pm.
If you are unable to attend on a Thursday night, please come to a Saturday session between 11am to 1.00 pm.
You are welcome to attend this class any time in second or third trimester, ideally between 20-25 weeks of pregnancy. This class is suitable for all pregnant women, even if you are planning an elective caesarean section birth and goes over lots of practical advice.

Anatomical changes in pregnancy
How to activate your pelvic floor muscles correctly
Safe exercise options in pregnancy
Avoiding back and pelvic pain
TENS machine use
Perineal massage
