Preparing for childbirth

Calvary North Adelaide Hospital has a comprehensive pre-natal education program presented by experienced midwives to provide you with information, support and guidance as you and your family prepare for pregnancy and parenting.

Antenatal information for parents-to-be

Explore our online parent education series and resources, specifically designed for expectant parents.

Our classes

Antenatal classes

Optional Antenatal education is presented by experienced and skilled midwives who have a passion for education.

Topics covered include labour & birthing, pain relief & coping methods, variations (induction, caesarean section), baby care & going home.

Classes give couples the opportunity to meet other prospective parents and to ask questions if needed.

Breastfeeding classes

Optional breastfeeding education is presented by experienced midwives with lactation consultant certification. These workshops are aimed at providing focused information and best practice guidelines to mothers in a supportive environment.

Classes can be booked via the maternity ward clerk who will contact individuals once their online booking is received.

Grandparent classes

An optional informal class presented by senior midwives aiming to provide up to date information and guidelines across a range of topics, including:

  • A brief introduction to Calvary

  • Update on labour, pain relief and birthing

  • Breast feeding and how grandparents can support

  • Safety – childproofing homes, safe sleeping, choking and resuscitation

  • Options for nappies and environmental impact

  • Postnatal depression

  • Tour of the unit
