Calvary North Adelaide Hospital celebrates 125th Anniversary

Since it’s humble beginnings in March 1900, CNAH has been a cornerstone of compassionate care, continuing the mission of the Little Company of Mary to support the sick and dying. Over the last century and a quarter, it has touched the lives of countless South Australians, evolving into a modern hospital offering a wide range of clinical, surgical, diagnostic and specialist services.
Little Company of Mary Healthcare Board Chair, Jim Birch, said CNAH’s enduring impact was a testament to the courage and dedication of the Sisters who founded it.
“This hospital is far more than a historic site – it is a dynamic, evolving institution that continues to transform to meet the needs of the community,” he said. “For 125 years CNAH has been a place of hope, healing and unwavering care. It’s a privilege to be part of a legacy that has shaped the lives of so many South Australians.”
Calvary Health Care Regional Chief Executive Officer, South Australia, Ms Sharon Kendall said the milestone was an opportunity to recognise the extraordinary dedication of staff, volunteers, medical officers, and partners who bring Calvary’s mission to life each day,”
“Calvary’s impact extends far beyond this hospital. From here we have grown to include other hospitals in South Australia, seven aged care sites, extensive home care services, our treasured community facilities, The Cottage in Port August and Vic Street,” she said.
The celebrations will feature the lighting of the Mary Potter Candle a powerful reminder of the Divine Love that first inspired the Sisters of the Little Company of Mary and continues to guide Calvary’s work today.
