Calvary Riverina Hospital welcomes new nurse graduates
The cohort will focus on theory and teamwork, before beginning ward rotations next week.
Calvary Riverina Hospital General Manager, Jacki Hilton, said she was thrilled the new nurses had chosen to begin their nursing careers with Calvary.
“I spent the first few years of my nursing career at Calvary Riverina Hospital, much like these new nurses. The experience and knowledge I gained here was crucial in laying the foundations I needed to further my career,” Ms Hilton said.
“Working at a smaller, regional hospital provides you with experiences and opportunities you may not get in a larger hospital. From being able to specialise in theatre or work across a range of specialties such as maternity, we support and encourage our nurse graduates to pursue the areas of nursing they’re passionate about.”
Introducing the Nurse Graduates
Among the new faces is Janaya Colgan, who is following in her mother’s footsteps by pursuing a career in nursing.
“I’ve always found myself leaning towards a career in nursing, like my mum. I am a very caring person, so this is the perfect role for me,” Janaya said.
“During my studies I was lucky enough to do a few placements at Calvary Riverina Hospital. Everyone here is so friendly and are always available to answer any questions you have, so I knew it was the perfect place to begin my nursing career.”
Joining Janaya is fellow nurse graduate Alannah Moran, who spent 10 years as an Assistant in Nursing at Calvary Riverina Hospital.
“I loved my role as an Assistant in Nursing (AIN) but I decided it was time to try something new and further my career by becoming an enrolled nurse,” Ms Moran said.
“Completing my placement at Calvary Riverina was an easy choice. I already worked here as an AIN and I liked the idea of being able to learn in a supportive environment. Everyone here is so friendly and have been supportive from day one.”
Calvary Riverina offers the Calvary OnePlus Graduate Nurse Program, which provides new nurses with comprehensive education and the on-the-job training across a variety of practices. A supportive environment is a key part of the program, with an educator available in each ward at Calvary Riverina Hospital to work with the graduates and ensure they are supported every step of the way.
The Calvary OnePlus Graduate Nurse Program also takes into account previous experience, encouraging graduates to build on their existing knowledge and skills.
The hospital will welcome another cohort of new nurses in May.
