Gail Waddingham’s journey with Calvary began in 2020 at Calvary Bethlehem Hospital, where she was undergoing rehabilitation during lockdown restrictions in Victoria.

Her condition affected her mobility, heart, eyesight, and breathing, leaving her feeling overwhelmed and frustrated.

“I was unsure if I would ever get home. It was a hard time,” Gail said.

After a while, she was able to go home and the transition was made smoother with the ongoing assistance of her disability support workers. Following the passing of her mother, Gail and her brother had to leave their family home and resettle in a new place.

She has found solace in the companionship and support provided by her support workers. They do not just provide care, but take her out, provide emotional reassurance, and help her navigate the challenges of everyday life.

“They make such a difference in my life, they’re there when I need someone to talk to. I couldn’t manage without them now.”

One memorable experience for Gail was attending the musical Chicago, thanks to the thoughtful planning of her support team.“The team helped me get ready and did my makeup. I had such a great night,” Gail said.Looking forward, Gail expressed gratitude for the ongoing support that extends beyond assistance with daily activities.

“They’ve become like family, and they make me feel cared for and comfortable in my home.”

Gail’s support team has helped keep her engaged in her passions. Recently, Gail attended a football game with one of Calvary’s disability support workers.
