Sharon – Pet Therapy

Pet therapy brings so much pleasure to the patients, staff and for the dogs it provides an opportunity for their socialisation by meeting and interacting in a healthcare environment.

I joined the Calvary volunteer team in 2017 with my pet therapy puppies which I train for various organisations. I wanted to become a volunteer because I have the time and motivation and enjoy meeting different people and I love to talk and listen.

My favourite thing about volunteering is seeing the joy in everyone’s faces as we stroll the corridors and how easy conversation can be when you have a dog. You can be sure of one thing; people are always so ready to share a story about their pets which often connects them to heartfelt memories of their loved companions.

My inspiration is Anne-Marie, Suzy our Diversional therapist and the staff for all their positive feedback and their appreciation for the little things I can do.

My advice to someone who is thinking about volunteering at Calvary is if you feel you can contribute in just a small way and bring joy to the day of another person, it’s worth every smile.
