Calvary Home Care’s Michelle Baldwin reflects on rewarding career

As demand for care of older people on the Mid North Coast was growing, Ms Baldwin chose to study a Certificate III in Aged Care. The decision has led to a successful and fulfilling career in home care at Calvary.
Michelle's journey with Calvary
“I was lucky enough to be offered a support worker role with Calvary Home Care. I’ve been with the organisation for more than six years now and I’ve worked my way up the ladder,” Ms Baldwin said.
As the new Calvary Mid North Coast Home Care Service Centre Service Coordinator, Ms Baldwin oversees the newly opened service centre in Forster, the satellite office in Cundletown and the Star of the Sea Respite Cottage.
“Before moving to Forster I worked in administration, so making the transition into home care was a big change for me and it has been incredibly rewarding,” Ms Baldwin said.
“I initially started my career with Calvary as a support worker. I really enjoy being out in the community, helping clients to stay independent in their own home and making sure they’re happy and comfortable.”
Calvary Home Care General Manager, NSW and ACT, Jessica Scaife said Ms Baldwin led an incredibly passionate team committed to providing care across the Mid North Coast.
“Having started out as a support worker and now working as the Service Coordinator, Ms Baldwin has a strong understanding of the region’s needs when it comes to home care,” Ms Scaife said.
“The team deliver a range of support services across the Mid North Coast including personal care, social support, transport and clinical care.”
Calvary's 12-month traineeship program
A major aspect of Ms Baldwin’s role is overseeing the traineeship program which is run with Calvary St Paul’s Aged Care in Cundletown.
“We have been running the traineeship program for four years and it has been incredibly successful with all of our past trainees still working for Calvary. Each round sees up to seven trainees supported to study a Certificate III in Aged Care,” Ms Baldwin said.
“We work alongside our colleagues at Calvary St Paul’s Aged Care to deliver the 12-month traineeship program, which also allows the trainees to do some of their face-to-face learning in aged care setting.”
Calvary Mid North Coast Home Care provides support to older people in the community across the Mid North Coast, from Port Macquarie to Forster, and as far inland as Gloucester.
