From caring for family to caring for the community

Caring for her grandparents in their home led Ashley Talbot to discover her passion.

“I joined the Calvary Riverina Home Care team nearly four years ago because I wanted to make a difference in people’s lives. Being able to make sure the elderly people in our community are comfortable and have the support they need to stay in their own homes means a lot to me,” Ms Talbot said.

“My family and I cared for my grandparents when they weren’t able to themselves. Keeping them in their own home and together was so important to my family and just knowing that they were comfortable for the last part of their lives is something I will always cherish.”

Ms Talbot initially joined the team as a support worker before being promoted to Care Coordinator. She is currently acting as the Calvary Riverina Home Care Support Worker Team Leader.

“In my current role every day is different. Some days I manage recruitment, other days I’m on the road helping our support workers. Working in home care is incredibly rewarding,” Ms Talbot said.

Calvary Riverina Home Care supports people in their own homes across the region, including Wagga Wagga, Albury, the Snowy Valleys, Temora, Junee, Cootamundra and Gundagai.

“The team delivers a range of support services that enable independence, improve social connections and promote positive health and well-being,” Calvary Home Care General Manager, NSW and ACT, Jessica Scaife, said.

“Our team helps clients with everything from providing domestic assistance, personal care, shopping, gardening and providing clinical support. We know how important it is to our clients and their families to be able to stay in their home and in their community for as long as they can.”

The Calvary Riverina Home Care Service Centre has relocated to 149 Baylis Street, Wagga Wagga, expanding its existing services and growing the team.

“I have been supported by Calvary professionally and personally. There’s a range of opportunities to become part of the team that suit a variety of skillsets. At Calvary, we even offer traineeships for a Certificate III in Individual Support so you can study while you work,” Ms Talbot said.
